The power of positive thinking

While the end of 2009 is almost here, I can’t help thinking that what started as a gloomy year really hasn’t been all that bad. Again, I’m being optimistic because things can always be worse. I say that because every day I meet people who are doing great things with their lives by focusing on their dreams and not on the negative vibes of the economy or the health situation facing the world at the moment. Positive thinking makes things happen and the three local celebrities featured in our “Dream Catchers” cover feature are perfect examples and ones we can be inspired by.

When I met our cover story personality Brian Roman, I was instantly taken by his determination and dedication. Not only is he possibly one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, his story is touching and inspirational and sparked the idea of finding others who were living their dreams. And we did find them. You can read about Christopher Dallo, the youngest tenor I know (and what a phenomenal voice for a 17 year old!), who recently was asked by legendary producer David Foster to join his show in New Jersey). Then when I heard violinist Grenville Pinto at an event I knew he had to be part of this story; people making their dreams come true. What better stories could we focus on for our winter/holiday issue?

What I think is great about all three of these individuals is that they are all local talents and really they are shining examples of how dreams can come true for anyone! Regardless of industry or age, dreams are possible. Sometimes people like them are right in front of us and we don’t realize it until we actual listen and see for ourselves. Hollywood, move over, Vaughan has its own talent pool just waiting to make it big!

The year 2010 already sounds exciting, especially with the Winter Olympic Games around the corner. There is no doubt that the city of Vancouver will be one of the most exciting places to be this winter, so if you are the adventurous type and want to travel there for a visit or for the Games, plan ahead and start now. If you will be attending any of the events at the Olympics, be sure to look for our own David Arrigo, a mural artist who will be travelling there and documenting great Olympics moments on canvas. He did this once before at the 2002 Winter Games and calls it a unique and once in a lifetime experience.

But from now until then, everyone will be planning for the holidays. Since it is a busy and often stressful time, we have brought you a couple of articles that will help make the season a lot more relaxed and enjoyable. We hope you take the time to take care of yourself, use a preventative approach to your health by eating right and getting your rest.  I know I look forward to doing that over the holidays.

From all of us at Whatever Publishing to all of you, a big thank you for voting and making Whatever Magazine the “Top Choice” for two years in a row. We are dedicated to bringing you a great magazine issue after issue, and without all of our readers and advertisers, it would not be possible.

At this time, all of us would like to wish you a safe, healthy and prosperous holiday season.

Happy Holidays to all, cheers!
